Question by Simply Me♥: I want to work hands on with disabled children in a rehab setting. Which degree path should I take?
I really would like to make a career in helping people. I have a soft spot for children the elderly disabled and mentally ill. I would like to help out in a rehab setting. I would prefer helping out the disabled rather it be the old or young Im just confused about which path I should take. Please someone help me with this who know first hand about the path that is well suited for me. Thanks in advance!

First of all, it depends if you want to go to university or tafe.
A lot of the time tafe offers all sorts of courses that only take a fraction of the time of completing a bachelors degree, the only downside is that you will only be qualified to do a much smaller range of things as you would were you to go to uni.
Uni is a lot more expensive, to do a bachelor of nursing, or psychology, and I’m sure there’s a bachelor of social work or something like that. These degrees will cost you roughly $ 3000 a semester, nursing and social work typically will go for about 3 years, psychology 4-5, there are double degree options also, which provide you with a broader range of knowledge and career options, these can go from 4-6 years, yet they give you two degrees, which would separately take 6-8 years. (and be much more expensive)

It’s up to you whether you choose tafe or uni, and what course/degree you do, burt there are plenty which will lead you to the career you are passionate about. Nursing degrees let you choose electives in mental health, aged care, childrens care etc, and social work is basically counseling and rehab.

Depending on where you live, there are plenty of places offering these things.

have a look on the QUT website if you live in QLD. I’m not sure what unis are in other states, but google will tell you :)
